XFL 2013 - Cross Florida Bike Ride

ALERT:  THE XFL (Cross Florida Bike Ride) IS POSTPONED!!!

Over the last few weeks most of the bikers had to back out of this event due to scheduling conflicts, injuries, and various reasons. That drops us down to 2 people. Because of this we will attempt to reschedule this event in early 2014, probably in late February. Our sincere apologies to anyone that we may not be aware of that was planning on doing this event and is now finding out it is postponed.

XFL CROSS FLORIDA BIKE RIDE
The XFL (Cross Florida Bike Ride) is a physically demanding Christ-centered biking event that covers 2 days of biking across the state of Florida. The complete coast-to-coast trek across the state is 160 miles.

The XFL starts at the Gulf of Mexico in Tarpon Springs and finishes at the Atlantic Ocean in Cocoa Beach. The biking route follows county roads, state roads, highways (not the interstate), residential roads as well as the back roads of central Florida. A good portion of the scenery is beautiful rural farm land which gives the biker a feel for a more natural historical Florida. It is easy to think that you are in another state.

Day 1 of the XFL is the Century Challenge (100 miles) that starts at the Gulf of Mexico and heads east towards Kissimmee, FL.

Day 2 covers the remaining 60 miles to the Atlantic Ocean.

We will have a daily spiritual lesson from the Bible and set aside time for personal daily devotions. This is a great event to challenge your body and spirit, overcome personal limits, and make new friends.

The XFL is a GTD Public Event that is open to the general public. Everyone is welcome! Pre-trip conditioning is highly recommended.

Note: For cyclists & support crews there are numerous risks involved in participating in road biking events - PARTICIPATE AT OWN RISK!

CYCLISTS SHOULD CONSULT A PHYSICIAN PRIOR TO TRAINING AND BECOME FAMILIAR WITH CYCLING ON MAJOR ROADS NEXT TO TRAFFIC.

ABOUT THE ROUTE
DANGER - BIKE AT OWN RISK!

THE ROUTE: We do not bike on sidewalks. The biking route follows county roads, state roads, highways (not the interstate), residential roads as well as the back roads of central Florida. Sometimes the route has busy highway traffic. Sometimes there are no shoulders on the road. Sometimes there is road construction. Sometimes you encounter drivers who don't like to share the road. At other times you may experience very light traffic, wide shoulders, newly constructed roads with great bike lanes, and drivers that appreciate cyclists. Since we start at sunrise on the weekends the traffic is generally light for the first four or five hours. Whenever possible we opt for residential or back roads to piece the XFL route together, but sometimes the only paved road from one town to the next is a state road or highway.

ABOUT THE S.A.G. STOPS (SAG = SUPPORT AND GEAR)

There will be SAG Stops approximately every 20-30 miles. At each stop cyclist will have an opportunity to take a quick break while enjoying power snacks, carbs, sandwiches, hydration (water and gatorade), and a lot of cheering & encouragement from the SAG Crew. It's also a good time to make any mechanical adjustments. When possible we try to pick a location that is away from traffic, has shade and access to a toilet.

We are always looking for more volunteers for the SAG Crew... this is a great way to cheer our cyclists on towards the goal! Volunteers have to cover their own expenses and it usually costs the same as the cyclist price.
